Children's toys and clothes cost parents almost half a billion euros a year

Parents of a child aged up to four years annually spend 460euros only on clothes, footwear and toys, so that the three marketswere children are the "stars" amount to over 460m euros annually,according to the estimates of Euromonitor research company.

Euromonitor survey refers to children aged between 0 and 4years, namely a little above one million children, but does notinclude data on how much parents spend on diapers, baby food orpowder milk.

ZF for the first time tried to present Romanians' cumulatedexpenditures on child products starting from some estimates byplayers or making its own projections. Thus, to the 460m eurosestimated by Euromonitor, annual expenses put at 170m euros ondiapers or 50m euros on special baby food are added.

The overall child apparel market in 2010 reached 262m euros,down 10% against 2009, according to Euromonitor data. The marketwill further decline until 2012.

The footwear market is significantly lower, standing at only100m euros in 2010.

On the other hand, baby food is an extremely dynamic market, sothat it maintained its growth pace despite the crisis. The businessamounts to over 50m euros, according to ZF estimates.
