Energy generated by wind farms is likely to supply over 333,000houses with electricity this year, almost three times more thanlast year.

The spectacular leap is not visible, though, from the comparisonagainst 2010, but against 2009, when the "windmills" installed inRomania fuelled only around 5,800 houses, 57 times less than thelevel likely to be reached this year.

"In 2011, we estimate a wind energy production of 800 GWh. In2010, production in the first 11 months reached 205 GWh and weexpect 270 GWh for the entire year. In 2009, wind energy generationstood at 14 GWh," say the representatives of Transelectrica, thenational grid operator.

The energy production indicated by Transelectrica points to thebooming investments in wind farms, a segment that was practicallyone of the few where, even amid the crisis, earmarked sums roseseveral times year on year.

However, the real boom will come this year, when, according toTranselectrica data, wind energy is likely to supply around 333,000houses with electricity, with the "wind electricity" to weigh over1% in Romania's electricity consumption.
