Dan Lazarescu, a former shareholder in Rombel (today Medicover)medical services operator and in TotalSoft software company, saysthe times when clinics generated most of turnover throughsubscriptions are close to the end as subscriptions are a"temporary" solution" for a fledgling market. "(...) Subscriptionswere something temporary for one to subsequently connect to theclassical system entailing a provider and an insurer. This does notmean, though, these private clinics will go bankrupt," Lazarescutold ZF in an interview. At present, private clinics have basedtheir business on the subscription model, and Lazarescu believesthat in the absence of a change of the model, investments fundsthat have entered the market will find it impossible to derive thehigh returns they expect. He believes private operators willregister further growth as there is potential for it. According toPMR estimates, the private healthcare services market could gobeyond 600m euros in 2012, from 373m euros in 2009, with the growthpace set to accelerate in the following years and reach 25% from13% in 2010.
