14.04.2010, 19:56 9

The war of prices on the Romanian telecom market will notsubside over the next three to four years, either, and the yet lowrate of usage of Internet access services in Romania is the chancefor operators to boost their average revenue per user, sayrepresentatives of telecom companies.

"We are still behind as far as Internet usage is concerned, withoperators still investing and building networks in order to be ableto offer high-speed internet - that would also allow the provisionof telephony and TV services. This is the bet right now - theaverage revenue per user will rise via increased Internet usage,"believes Radu Petric, head of the Association of CableCommunications (ACC), which includes the biggest players on themarket. He made these statements at a conference organised inBucharest by online publication Broadband TV News, based in theUK.

With only 2.8 million fixed lines offering high-speed Internetaccess at the end of last year - covering 13% of the population,Romania is one of the laggards in the European Union on thissegment, so demand will continue to be high, operators agree.
