Less than six hours by plane from Bucharest, Doha - the capitalof one of the richest Arab countries - Qatar, is for Romaniansoftware producer TotalSoft the gateway to a market that couldtriple by 2013, to nearly 4 billion dollars, amid massiveinvestments made by the public sector.

The Romanian company last year won its first contract and isnegotiating another two, says Iris Constantinescu, sales manager ofTotalSoft Qatar, currently the company's only employee in Doha. "Wehave already completed the first project in Qatar for Mowasalat -Qatar's governmental company of local transport." Competition towin contracts is strong, given Arabs' native negotiation abilitiesand the presence of big IT multinationals and Indian companies, which come with low prices.

"Qatar is an emerging country, in full process of economicgrowth, where the business sector has yet to reach oversaturation, and it is very well positioned geographically in the Middle East,as well as close to areas such as Asia and Africa."

Qatar, which is the third-largest country in terms of naturalgas reserves, last year had a GDP of 127 billion dollars and postedthe world's highest economic growth, of 19.6%.
